A method for treating an aneurysm in a patient, comprising: providing a coil implant comprising a collagenous implantable biomaterial, wherein the collagenous implantable biomaterial comprises a plurality of constituent threads comprising tela submucosa of a warm-blooded vertebrate tissue source, said constituent threads shaped into a braid and forming an elongated braided collagenous biomaterial, wherein the braided collagenous biomaterial is wound and then lyophilized while wound to form a coil having a plurality of turns and having shape memory for the shape of the coil, said shape memory allowing the braided collagenous biomaterial to be unwound to an unwound state and said shape memory causing the braided collagenous biomaterial to reform from the unwound state into the coil when rehydrated, wherein a radiopaque marker is disposed on the constituent threads, and wherein said collagenous biomaterial is effective upon implantation to promote cellular invasion and ingrowth; delivering the coil implant in said unwound state through a catheter to a lumen of the aneurysm; and radiographically visualizing said radiopaque marker.
