A method for detecting a residual preload according to the present invention comprises: a. a step of mounting a temperature sensor on one of two elements which can move relative to each other; b. a step of moving the two elements relative to each other and at the same time recording a temperature which changes with time at which the temperature is measured by the temperature sensor to obtain an initial temperature rising curve; c. a step of moving the two elements relative to each other and at the same time recording the temperature which changes with time at which the temperature is measured by the temperature sensor to obtain a detection temperature rising curve; and d. a step of comparing the difference between the initial temperature rising curve and the detection temperature rising curve to obtain a residual preload during step c for a preload during step b. The method for detecting a residual preload according to the present invention can detect a residual preload remaining on a target object when the target object operates. The residual preload can be detected at low costs. The temperature sensor has a long life, responds quickly, and measures a temperature relatively accurately.
