PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a specification suitable for the recording layer of an ECC medium capable of simultaneously achieving a high SNR and a narrow recording track width and a microwave application method are not clear in a microwave assist magnetic recording system.SOLUTION: A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus comprises: a magnetic recording medium including a recording layer having at least two or more magnetic layers laminated on a nonmagnetic substrate; and a magnetic head having a main pole for applying a recording magnetic field in a direction approximately perpendicular to the recording surface of the magnetic recording medium and a microwave generating element for generating a microwave magnetic field. Out of two or more magnetic layers constituting the recording layer of the magnetic recording medium, a relation between the thickness Ts of a magnetic layer having the lowest anisotropy energy and the thickness Tt of the recording layer is Ts/Tt≤0.2. The microwave generating element applies a microwave magnetic field having a width wider than that of a recording magnetic field generated by the main pole of the magnetic head to the magnetic recording medium.
