PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a protein therapeutic having necessary potency and/or sufficient quantity to be useful as a therapeutic agent.SOLUTION: The invention provides a Serum Amyloid P (SAP) variant comprising five SAP protomers. Each of the SAP protomers has an amino acid sequence at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO: 1. At least one of the SAP protomers comprises one or more amino acid mutations or chemical modifications that alter a biological activity of the SAP variant compared to a corresponding sample of serum-derived human SAP.
