The image processor can be made in the form of a graphics processing unit (GPU).EFFECT: providing optimum usage of external memory and controlling the external memory capacity of an on-chip computer system by compressing the image and storing the compressed image in the external memory in a manner which allows to minimise access by the image processor to the external memory and provides access to an arbitrary part of the image in the external memory.10 cl, 3 dwg
