PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of decelerating a vehicle in a state suitable for a road ahead of the vehicle.SOLUTION: A vehicle control system includes: road information acquisition means for acquiring road information on a road ahead of a vehicle; and deceleration control means for decelerating the vehicle either in a first state in which fuel supply to an engine is stopped and engine brake is applied or in a second state in which inertia travel is performed without stopping the fuel supply to the engine on the basis of the road information. The road information acquisition means acquires target vehicle speed at a deceleration point existing within a prescribed distance ahead of the vehicle. The deceleration control means selects any one of the first state and the second state so that estimated vehicle speed of the vehicle approaches the target vehicle speed at the deceleration point.
