PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of removing an altered film generated when a process is in progress, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: A display device includes: a substrate; a thin-film transistor formed on the substrate; a pixel electrode connected to the thin-film transistor; common electrodes formed so as to be spaced apart from the pixel electrodes and interposing a plurality of minute spaces between themselves and the pixel electrodes; a roof layer formed on the common electrodes; inlets through which part of the minute spaces are exposed; a liquid crystal layer filling the minute spaces; and a sealing film formed so as to seal the inlets and hermetically sealing the minute spaces. The common electrodes located in ends of the minute spaces are formed in a footstep shape.
