Disclosed is a method for video encoding, which determines a transformation unit for performing transformation of a current encoding unit among encoding units which are data units for encoding a current picture, encodes the current encoding unit by including transformation based on a transformation unit, and uses a transformation index outputting encoded data of the current encoding unit, information of an encoding mode, and transformation index information of a structure of the transformation unit.
