<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor optical element and an optical module, which achieves higher radiation performance while suppressing parasitic capacitance of a drive electrode.SOLUTION: A semiconductor optical element comprises: a semiconductor multilayer in which an optical waveguide part which includes an active layer 4 and extends in an emission direction of light with the active layer being included, a ridge part located on the optical waveguide part, a first bank part 12 arranged in a first lateral direction from the ridge part and a second bank part 13 arranged in a second lateral direction from the ridge part are formed; an insulation layer 7 laminated on a predetermined region on an upper surface of the semiconductor multilayer; a first drive electrode which is formed to continuously extend from a region including the first contact region which is a top surface of the ridge part and where the insulation layer is not laminated further to an upper surface of the insulation layer laminated on the second bank part; and a dummy electrode 9 formed to include the second contact region which is a part of the top surface of the first bank part and where the insulation layer is not laminated in a non-contact manner.</p> |
