PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passively operated safety pen needle assembly.SOLUTION: In a first aspect, a safety pen needle assembly includes a hub 12 and a needle 14 fixed to the hub which extends distally from the hub so as to define an injection length. A first shield 16 is slidable relative to the hub from a first state, in which the shield covers at least a substantial portion of the injection length of the needle, to a second state, in which at least a substantial portion of the injection length of the needle is exposed; and, a second shield 18 is slidable relative to the hub from a first position, in which the shield covers a proximal end 50 of the needle, to a second position, in which the proximal end of the needle is exposed. Biasing means 20 is disposed between the first and second shields and configured to simultaneously urge the first shield distally and the second shield proximally. |
