According to an embodiment of the present invention, the head mounted display (HMD) comprises: a projector unit to project visual information; a sensor unit to detect whether the HMD is stored in an HMD case which stores the HMD; and a processor to control the projector unit and the sensor unit. The processor converts a light path of the projector unit with respect to a physical structure of the HMD case when the HMD detects an incase state in which the HMD is stored in the HMD case, and converts the light path of the projector unit with respect to the physical structure when the HMD detects an uncase state in which the HMD is not stored in the HMD case.
