An analog video signal received through a cable may be distorted by the cable and noise during transmission. Provided are a method and an apparatus for determining the degree of transmission distortion and correcting the analog video signal. The method and apparatus for receiving a video signal are configured to determine a distortion level of the analog video signal using an equalizing pattern signal included in the video signal. The analog video signal is corrected based on the distortion level.
