A primary cell having an alkaline electrolyte 9, a zinc electrode 8 and metal terminal caps 1, 2, is provided with a layer of tin 28 between the zinc electrode and terminal 2. The tin may be formed as a coating or plating on the terminal. The caps 1, 2 may be crimped over the ends of an insulating tube 3 which encloses a metal cup 4 welded at 27 to the cap 1. A depolarizer 5 of manganese dioxide and graphite which may also contain oxide of mercury is pressed into the cup 4. The caps 1, 2 may be made of steel and rubber washers 6, 7 are provided to make the cell liquid tight and gas tight. Specification 705,501 is referred to. |
