<p>Abstract The present invention is an assembly that is retro-fittable to the fuelling inlet of a diesel fuelled vehicle including: 5 - a body, and - a flap, and - a spring, and - at least two latches. The body is substantially tubular shaped, and can be inserted into and fastened to the 10 upper end section of a fueling inlet of the fuel tank of a diesel powered vehicle. When it is inserted and fastened, then the filling nozzle of a diesel fueling pump can be inserted into the body. The flap is hingedly attached to the body at or near its rearmost end, and the flap is biased by the spring to overlay the tubular portion when in its normal rest position, so as to act as an obstruction to the penetration of the fueling nozzle into 15 the tubular portion. Each of the at least two latches latch the flap in the closed position. Each of the latches is influenced by biasing means to rest inwardly, relative to the tubular body, and each latch includes a cam like portion that protrudes into the cavity of the tubular body through a respective opening in the sidewall of the body. When the fuel tank is about to be refueled, the insertion of the nozzle of the fuel pump firstly 20 engages with each of the cam like portions on the at least two latches, and as the nozzle is more deeply inserted into the body, it thereby forces each latch out of latching engagement with the flap, and once the latches are all disengaged, then when the nozzle is further inserted into the body, the end of the nozzle eventually engages the flap, and since it is no longer held in placed by any of the latches, the nozzle can then overcome 25 the biasing action of the spring, and force the flap to swing out of the way about its hinge, thereby allowing the nozzle to be fully inserted into the fueling inlet on the vehicle, so that the fueling operation can commence.</p> |
