The present invention improves throughput and supports the use mode of various wireless communication systems when time division duplex (TDD) is used in an environment in which data traffic is biased to a downlink side. A user terminal for performing wireless communication with a TDD cell, wherein the user terminal is provided with: a transmission/reception unit for transmitting/receiving a signal using an uplink (UL)/downlink (DL) configuration which includes a special sub-frame configured from a downlink time interval, a guard period, and an uplink time interval, DL transmission being performed in all of the sub-frames of the UL/DL configuration; and a control unit for controlling the placement of an uplink demodulation reference signal on the basis of the length of the uplink time interval configuring the special sub-frame.
