<p>A system, method and device for communicating information from a wayside device (200) to a vehicle (100) are provided. In one embodiment, the device (210) includes a first light unit (220) configured to emit a first pattern of light in a non-visible spectrum, a second light unit (230) configured to emit a second pattern of light in the non-visible spectrum, and an interface (250). The first pattern is distinct from the second pattern. The interface is in communication with the first and second light units and configured to receive information of an operational mode of the wayside device. The first and second light units are responsive to one or more first control signals from the interface to operate in a first mode, corresponding to a first operational mode of the wayside device, in which the first pattern of light is on and the second pattern of light is off.
