A method for selectively inhibiting a sulfate-reducing bacterium, characterized by allowing chelated Al to co-exist in an environment in which the sulfate-reducing bacterium exists to thereby selectively inhibit the proliferation of the sulfate-reducing bacterium; and a gypsum composition characterized by comprising burnt gypsum (A) and chelated Al (B), wherein the chelated Al (B) is contained in an amount of 0.01 to 20 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the burnt gypsum (A).
