CELL UTILIZATION ESTIMATION BY WIRELESS DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for wireless user equipment (UE) to estimate loading of a cell of a cellular network.SOLUTION: Loading and potential available throughput of a serving cell of wireless user equipment (UE) are estimated. Physical layer metrics of a channel on which the UE communicates with the serving cell are measured. Cell utilization of the serving cell is calculated based at least in part on the measured physical layer metrics. A maximum available throughput of the serving cell is calculated based on the cell utilization.
