<p>A handle assembly (100) for luggage (20) comprises a base adapted to be fixed to an item of luggage, a carrying handle mounted to the base, a weighing handle (120), a load cell mounted in the weighing handle, a display (126) in the weighing handle operable to display a weight in response to a load cell output, and an elongate element (160) connected at one end to the load cell and extending through an opening in the base and having its other end connected to an anchor point fixed relative to the base. The load cell provides an output corresponding to a tension in the elongate element. The weighing handle is movable between (a) a first position adjacent the base; and (b) a second position spaced from the base, where the elongate element is tensioned, and the load cell provides an output to the display corresponding to the tension in the elongate element. The weighing handle is automatically retractable to said first position under the influence of a return force provided by resilient means.</p> |
