An apparatus for processing images includes: a color compensation unit which converts colors of input signals of a first color gamut and outputs the colors as color change signals; a color gamut conversion unit which outputs the input signals as color gamut conversion signals of a second color gamut narrower than the first color gamut; a blend coefficient setting unit which sets a blend coefficient defining a ratio of synthesizing the color conversion signals and the gamut change signals based on chorma which can be obtained from the put signals; and a color synthesis unit which generates synthesized image signals obtained by synthesizing the color conversion signals and the color gamut conversion signals at a ratio according to the blend coefficient. The color gamut conversion unit executes conversion to make a value of each element of the color conversion signals be 0-1 if a value of each element of the input signals is 0-1.
