A container 2, particularly a container for fresh produce such as fruit, is formed from a pulpable, fibrous material and has an opening 6 sealed with a polymeric film 8. Less than about 50 % of the surface area of the polymeric film is in contact with the container. The seal may be formed between the film and the rim of the container: preferably this is the only point of contact between the film and the container. The container may be formed from a composition comprising fibrous pulp and wax, for example paraffin wax. Also claimed is a method of making the container, comprising placing a polymeric film over an opening of a container as described above and applying heat and/or pressure to the film and/or container. Preferably this causes a portion of the film to melt, thereby bonding it to the fibres of the container. A method of packing the container, comprising placing an article in the container and then sealing it using heat and/or pressure, is also claimed. |
