The present invention relates to a transport container or pallet having a composite sandwich base panel. The panel comprises an upper surface layer 1 comprising fibre reinforcement material, a lower surface layer 5 comprising fibre reinforcement material, and a central core section 3 where at least the majority comprises a plurality of particles bound in a matrix. Preferably the fibre reinforcement material 1, 5 comprises fibres from carbon, aramid, basalt and/or fiberglass. The particles may be hollow microspheres to reduce the weight of the panel and in one embodiment they may differ by one or more characteristics selected from size, shape, structure and material. Preferably the core section 3 comprises a cellular structure and in one embodiment the structure and/or composition of the core may vary over its volume such that at least two parts of the core structure have different structural characteristics. In one embodiment a barrier layer 2, 4 is arranged between the core section 3 and at least one surface layer 1, 5. Also claimed is a unit load device comprising the composite sandwich base panel. |
