The present invention relates to a head mounted display (HMD) and a control method thereof. More specifically, the present invention provides a method for a user wearing the HMD to recognize at least one object located ahead. In an embodiment of the present invention, the HMD includes: a display unit for displaying visual information; a position sensing unit for sensing position of the HMD; a camera unit for sensing at least one object located in front of the HMD; and a processor for controlling the display unit, the position sensing unit and the camera unit. The processor acquires position information of the HMD, and generates a first virtual map showing a virtual object corresponding to the object located in front of the HMD, on the basis of the position information of the HMD, and displays the first virtual map. The first virtual map is displayed from the top of a first object, and is a curved map whose slope increases as the distance from the HMD increases. |
