<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object identification device capable of automatically separating areas for each object in identifying each kind of objects using image recognition even when loaves of bread are partly in contact with each other. <P>SOLUTION: Binarization is performed on a color image with two or more loaves of bread in contact with each other therein to separate a binarized image of the two or more loaves of bread, and polygonal approximation is performed on the separated contour lines to obtain the coordinates of apices, P1 to P33, of the approximate polygon. Then, the restriction vector (KH) indicating the curvature is obtained with each apex (P12) based on the relationship with apices nearby (P11-9, P13-14). The borderline is defined based on the length L of a candidate for the borderline connecting a pair of candidates for boundary points, the angles θ defined by the candidates for borderlines and each restriction vector, the area occupancy rate showing the overlap between the circular areas (E12-27) having the borderline candidates as the diameters and the whole image area, and the depth D of the restriction vector.
