<p>Foamed slag is produced by first foaming the slag or like smelt to the climax of foaming and then stabilizing its volume as near as possible to said climax by continuing and/or increasing the foaming and chilling medium throughout the mass to solidify it and prevent any settling of the foam. The product is of very light weight and high porosity and may be used as a light weight aggregate and for insulating purposes. The apparatus described in Specifications 563,655 and 608,658 can be used po carry out the method. However any foaming bed, wheel, conveyer, or shoot can be used provided the foaming and chilling medium supply can be continued and/or increased as near as possible to the climax of foaming.</p> |
