Improvements in transfer sheets for use with a receiving sheet sensitized by a colour-reactant substance

Class 146(3) [Also in Groups VIII and XVI] A paper sheet is coated with a lowpolarity hydrophobic wax, eg. carnauba, couricury, candelilla, esparto, sugar cane, montan, ozokerite, ceresin, Utah, or vegetable fibre wax, or micro-crystalline waxes of m.p.t. 170 to 200‹F or synthetic waxes such as hydrogenated castor oil, or fatty acid amides, which may be modified 'by chlorinated diphenyl, coumarone, indene, or other resinous substances, in which wax &c. is incorporated a hydrophobic oil, e.g. a petroleum lubricating oil, the said oil containing a colour forming substance giving a distinctive colouration on contacting a sensitized receiving surface. The oil comprises 25 to 75 per cent of the total weight of the coating. Colour forming substances specified are crystal violet lactone, xanthene-9, o-benzoic acid, 3, 6 - bis - diethylamino - 9 - p - nitroanilinolactam, Mischler's hydrol, Malachite green lactone, 3, 3 bis-(p-diethylaminophenyl) phthalide. and 3, 3 bis-(p-di-n-propylaminophenyl) phthalide. Inert fillers, e.g. 5 to 15 per cent of titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate or barium sulphate may be included in the coating. Such coated sheets may be used with receiving sheets sensitized with attapulgite, 'sodium zeolite material or sodium zeolite with the sodium exchange ions replaced by ions of hydrogen, nickel, copper, iron, zinc, mercury, barium, lead, cadmium or potassium, or halloysite or magnesium trisilicate. Sheets according to the invention make intermediate transfer sheets (e.g. carbon paper) unnecessary, and are non- smudging, clean to handle and immune to the effects of humid conditions.
