A method for cleaning solidified material 3a from a nozzle 2a of a multi-nozzle inkjet drop-on-demand (DOD) printer comprises deforming the nozzle to an extent that the adhesion forces between the solidified material coating the nozzle and the nozzle are overcome. The detached solidified material can then be flushed out of the nozzle by means of liquid material from the nozzle. The nozzle can be deformed by means of pressure from the liquid material, or it may be a mechanical force applied by a moveable element 11. The moveable element may be a cover which seals the nozzle. The nozzle may alternatively be deformed by sound vibrations [fig. 6]. The nozzle may be made of an elastic material such as silicone, and may be enclosed in an elastomer insert. |
