<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable actuator which can produce a larger driving force and can be manufactured more easily when compared with a conventional piezoelectric actuator. <P>SOLUTION: In the electrostrictive actuator 20, each of a plurality of electrostrictive elements 10 is divided into at least two active regions A where an electrostrictive material layer 1 is bend so as to be on the convex side of a base material, and an inactive region B located between two adjoining active regions A. A first electrode 3a is provided to cover the active regions A and the inactive region B in a first face 1a, and a second electrode 3b is provided to cover the active regions A in a second face 1b and to ensure electrical conduction by passing through the inactive region B partially.
