Disclosed are an image processing apparatus for removing fog from an image which enables to effectively remove the fog in real time by removing the fog from a received image and performing gamma correction after maximizing the contrast, and a method thereof. According to the present invention, the apparatus comprises: a fog removing unit for removing fog included in a received image through a fog removal model; a contrast strengthening unit for improving the contrast of the received image from which the fog is removed; and a gamma correction unit for performing gamma correction of the received image having the improved contrast.
