Class 140 A mutilayered porous fibrous sheet material is made by introducing an adhesive in the form of a foam into an assembly of a fibrous fleece with a fabric cover on one or both sides, and drying. The fleece may be superficially pretreated on one side with a small quantity of agglutinant such as rubber emulsion to strengthen it, or a small quantity of agglutinant may be applied to the inner surface of the fabric web. A fleece from a carding engine is hot-pressed, and passed with a fabric web between a pair of rollers where the foamed agglutinant is added and pressed in. The impregnated two-layer material is dried and calendered. The fibres and adhesives may be those employed in Specification 716,178.</p> |
