716,734. Pressure relieving devices for fluids. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd. Jan. 23, 1953 [Feb. 8, 1952], No. 3332/52. Class 135 In a safety device consisting of a domed frangible diaphragm 1 clamped between body parts comprising a fitting 5 connected to a vessel in which pressure is to be relieved and a fitting 6 which receives a clamping ring 3 and leads to atmosphere, either the body or the annular clamping flange 2 of the diaphragm has attached thereto a peg or pegs 7 mating with holes in the other member whereby, by varying the number and/or arrangement of pegs in constructions having different bursting pressures, only one design of diaphragm may be inserted in a given device. The invention may be applied to devices in which a cutter, mounted on the clamping ring 3, ruptures the diaphragm at a given pressure. It is also applicable to diaphragms with vacuum supports as described in Specification 711,516. To strengthen diaphragms which are designed to burst at low pressures the clamping ring 3 may be attached to the flange of the diaphragm, e.g. by adhesive, rivets, bolts or spot welding. When rivets or bolts are used their ends may coact with recesses in the body to serve as the interrelated mating means. |
