The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting positions using a wireless network and a method thereof. It includes an information storage part which stores the identification information and installation position information of access points installed in a vessel and the identification information of network devices and terminals which crews hold; and a position detecting part which detects the position of the terminals or the network devices based on identification information received from the network devices or the terminals and the identification information of an access point stored in the information storage part.
