Various embodiments of the present invention relate to a method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding in an electronic device. The method for decoding in an electronic device includes the steps of: receiving at least one parity symbol; generating a Cauchy matrix by using the parity symbol; calculating an inverse matrix of a Cauchy sub-matrix by constructing the Cauchy sub-matrix from the Cauchy matrix based on the number of at least one lost data symbol; updating at least one parity symbol corresponding to the lost data symbol; and restoring the lost data symbol by using the updated parity symbol.
