The subject of the invention is a method for controlling the operation of a combustion engine fitted to a motor vehicle, in order to reduce the amount of unburnt gases when the combustion engine is operated in a marginal mode of operation. An operation of detecting that the combustion engine is being run in a marginal mode of operation leads to an operation of commanding a forced increase in temperature of the exhaust gases produced by the combustion engine, which is carried out by periodic control sequences. The frequency and the individual durations of the control sequences are subordinated to predefined combustion engine operating condition parameters and can be constant or preferably are able to vary as a function of values relating to said predefined parameters.
|
