The present invention relates to a method for detecting motion blobs, which detects motion blobs from an image inputted from a surveillance camera. The method comprises the steps of: extracting edges of an image inputted; comparing the extracted edges of the image with edges of a background image to determine a similarity therebetween; and determining whether the motion blobs are generated due to an actually moving object or to local illumination changes, thereby detecting motion blobs in a manner insensitive to local illumination changes and thus reducing false alarms in a video surveillance system. |
