<p>Process for industrial synthesis of N-[2-(7-methoxy-naphthalen-1-yl)-ethyl]-acetamide (agomelatine) (I) comprises reacting (7-methoxy-1-naphtyl)acetonitrile, which is subjected to a reduction by hydrogen in the presence of Raney nickel in medium containing acetic anhydride in a polar protic medium to give (I) that is isolated as a solid. ACTIVITY : Antidepressant; Hypnotic; Cardiovascular-Gen.; Gastrointestinal-Gen.; CNS-Gen.; Muscular-Gen.; Eating-Disorders-Gen.; Anorectic.
