1. A negative electrode for a rechargeable lithium battery, comprising:
a negative active material and a binder, wherein the binder comprises carboxymethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, and a styrene-butadiene rubber, the carboxymethyl cellulose comprises a repeating unit represented by Chemical Formula 1 and a repeating unit represented by Chemical Formula 2, a sum of a mole number (n1) of a repeating unit represented by Chemical Formula 1 and a mole number (n2) of a repeating unit represented by Chemical Formula 2 is greater than or equal to about 1500, and a loading level, a weight per a unit area of a cross-section of the negative electrode is greater than or equal to about 12 mg/cm2: wherein, R1 to R3 are each independently a hydrogen atom, —OH or —(CH2OCH2)p1—COOX1, wherein at least one of R1 to R3 is —(CH2OCH2)p1—COOX1, wherein p1 is an integer ranging from 1 to 5, and X1 is an alkali metal, and n1 is an integer of greater than or equal to 600, wherein, n2 is an integer of 0 to 2000. |
