The present invention addresses the issue of an extremely large short-circuit current flowing and a wide-bandgap semiconductor element being unable to be protected, when a load short-circuit accident occurs in an electric power conversion device using said semiconductor element. This electric power device comprises: a converter that converts AC voltage to DC voltage; a DC intermediate circuit having a smoothing capacitor that smooths DC voltage converted by the converter; a reverse converter comprising a wide-bandgap semiconductor switching element terminal that converts the DC voltage smoothed by the DC intermediate circuit, to AC voltage; and a reactor and a diode connected in parallel to the reactor, between the smoothing capacitor and the reverse converter. The diode is connected to a smoothing capacitor terminal or a bus bar connected in the vicinity of the smoothing capacitor terminal and the diode is connected to a wide-bandgap semiconductor switching element terminal or a bus bar connected in the vicinity of the wide-bandgap semiconductor switching element terminal. |
