PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for potentiating and/or prolonging T cell activation (that is, to increase antigen-specific proliferation of T cells, to enhance cytokine production by T cells, to stimulate differentiation and effector functions of T cells and/or to promote T cell survival) or for overcoming T cell exhaustion and/or T cell anergy.SOLUTION: The method of the invention comprises administration of a PD-1 antagonist in an effective amount to induce, increase or enhance the immune response against tumors. The method enables intermittent access of the ligand to the PD-1 receptor according to the dose, administration period and/or affinity of the antagonist molecule, where the PD-1 antagonist inhibits or reduce the binding between endogenous PD-L1 and PD-1. |
