PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for printing on an article having a non-planar surface.SOLUTION: A method for printing on an article having a non-planar surface comprises the steps of: obtaining coordinates or appearance for a non-planar surface of an article (container 100); determining an orientation of a tangent 130 for a print head 120 in three dimensions; and using the orientation of the tangent 130 and positioning a print head 120 with respect to the non-planar surface of the article (container 100). An apparatus for printing on the articles having the non-planar surfaces are also disclosed.
