Provided are an apparatus, electronic device and method for enhancing image contrast. The apparatus comprises: a division unit for dividing an input image into at least two layers, wherein the levels of detail of the at least two layers are different; an enhancement unit for enhancing the contrast of each layer of the at least two layers respectively, wherein the levels of contrast enhancements on each layer are different; and a synthesis unit for synthesizing the at least two layers after the contrast is enhanced. By way of dividing an image into at least two layers with different levels of detail, and performing different levels of contrast enhancements on the at least two layers, image contrast can be enhanced accurately and effectively, so that the display effect of the image is improved.
