A particle beam irradiation apparatus, which controls the scanning device so that irradiation, for irradiating the particle beam on all irradiation positions of the subject being irradiated, is repeated the number of times specified by the rescan number and irradiates the particle beam on the respective irradiation positions the number of times specified by the rescan number. The particle beam irradiation apparatus is characterized in being provided with a calculation unit in which either a rescan number (n) or the beam intensity (J), which is the dose per unit time of the particle beam, is input and which determines the maximum value of the other value that satisfies condition (P1) below at all irradiation positions and presents same to the user.
