A method for managing nonvolatile memory, comprising: writing text data to a type of flash memory having a lower read error rate; writing image data to a type of flash memory having a higher read error rate; determining a first data residence time indicative of a length of time a first data has resided in a first type of multilevel cell (MLC) flash memory; and moving the first data from the first type of MLC flash memory to a second type of flash memory that is one of a single level cell (SLC) or second type of MLC flash memory with fewer bits per cell than the first type of MLC flash memory, responsive to the first data residence time of the first data exceeding a data residence time threshold of the first type of MLC flash memory, wherein at least one act of the method is performed by an electronic device.
