<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress contamination of another head caused by scattering of ink upon wiping one head while preventing an increase in size of a device. <P>SOLUTION: A first head 4a is mounted on a carriage 7 protruded further to a recording material side than a face of the carriage adjacent to a nozzle face in a wiping direction. A wiping means 23a wipes the nozzle face of the first head to a front edge in the wiping direction while elastically deforming by being pressed against the nozzle face of the first head, and includes an elastic body 26 that is restored to the original shape upon separating at the front edge. A nozzle face of a second head 4b includes an overlapping region 29 that overlaps with an ink scattering region 28 in which the ink may be scattered by elastic restoring force of the elastic body upon being restored to the original shape.
