A chip removing and lubricating device for a machine tool comprises a control valve 36 through which a pressurized gaseous medium passes to convey lubricant to a nozzle 35, and a by-pass around the valve to provide intermittent blasts of the gas. The supply 41 of air to a drilling machine 1 to feed and rotate the tool 3 passes also along a pipe 27 to enter a further pipe 34 through the valve 36, a cylinder 11 and a cylinder 9. The cylinder 11 contains an annular piston 22 which is advanced to expel lubricant through a passage 38 and a valve 40 into the air-stream from the valve 36. The cylinder 9 contains a piston 16 which is carried along as the drill is advanced to connect the air supply intermittently through grooves 29, 30 to passages 31, 32, 33 thus by-passing the valve 36 and providing chip-clearing blasts through the nozzle 35.</p> |
