The present invention relates to a device and a method thereof to search for a wanted vehicle, capable of recognizing and searching for numbers of vehicles around a black box by being interlinked with the black box installed in the vehicles, and identifying a position of a wanted vehicle in real time by using position information of the vehicles. The method includes a step of requesting a search for a number of a wanted vehicle to a black box installed in at least one vehicle, and receiving a response to the request; a step of determining whether the answer is an answer delivered from a black box for the detection of a vehicle number area including a function detecting the vehicle number area including vehicle numbers or an answer delivered from a block box for the recognition of vehicle numbers including a function of recognizing the vehicle numbers; and a step of obtaining a wanted vehicle and position information of the wanted vehicle by using the black box for the detection of the vehicle number area or black box for the recognition of the vehicle numbers according to the determination result.
