Pipette Tip With Filter

A filter pipette tip (1) comprises a small tube (2) with a large opening (3) at one end for connecting to a pipette, a small opening (4) for liquid at the other end, a channel (6) between the large opening and small opening and a porous filter (10) filling a section of the channel. The filter comprises at least two layers (11, 12) in series, i.e. a fine-pore layer (11) with a pore size of not more than 20 mu m and a coarse layer (12) with a different pore size of 20-50 mu m. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a filter pipette tip system (S1) comprising a tip (1) as above and a tip with a single-layer filter (10), the flow resistances of the filters (10) in the different tips (1) being essentially similar; (2) a filter pipette system (S2) with a tip (1) and/or tip system (S1) as above, and a pipette with at least one shaft or seating for attaching or inserting the end with the large opening (3) of a tip (1) and at least one gas displacement device connected to the shaft outlet or seating; and (3) establishing the alignment of a multilayer filter for a pipette tip as above, which involves determining the position of a boundary between two layers by passing ultrasound into the filter and measuring the ultrasound emerging from the filter .
