An embodiment of the present invention relates to a terminal having an improved security and a method for releasing a locked state of a terminal, the terminal comprising: an input unit for receiving a drag; a storage unit for storing a password pattern; a control unit for comparing the received drag with the password pattern and for releasing a locked state in accordance with the comparison result; and an output unit for displaying at least a portion of a user interface comprising at least two markers arranged in a lattice wherein the user interface comprises a first marker and a second marker; and the password pattern may include a movement from the first marker to the second marker and a movement from the second marker to the first marker.
