<p>A methodof welding together two articles 38, 40, at least one of which is formed from a sheet metal blank into a curved surface. The articles, 38, 40 may both be cylinders. A cut edge 46 is formed on the article 40 by cutting a sheet metal blank along a cutting line. The cut edge 46 is offered to the article 38 for welding. The cutting angle of the cut used to form the edge 46, relative to the surface of the blank from which the article 40 is formed, is varied as the cut progresses along the cutting line (along the edge 46) and the cutting angle is chosen to create a desired inclusive angle when the cut edge 46 is offered to the article 38. Wherein the angle may be calculated at minimum and maximum points and interpolated between the calculation points. Also shown is a sheet metal blank and an article comprising the sheet metal blank welded to another article.</p> |
