Marine seismic data is recorded by receivers 8 on a recording surface 7 below an ocean surface 6. The seismic data comprises at least two data quantities of a seismic wavefield (e.g. pressure and a component of the particle velocity field). The recorded data quantities are injected on a first velocity model using a forward propagator to generate a forward propagating down-going wavefield. The recorded data quantities are then injected on a second velocity model using a backward propagator so that an up-going wavefield is back propagated from said recording surface, thus producing a backward propagating up-going wavefield. The backward propagating up-going wavefield is compared with the forward propagating down-going wavefield to produce an image of at least one scatterer or reflecting boundary in the earth's interior.
|
